Built in the 15th century by order of the Inca Pachacútec, Machu Picchu remained hidden from the Western world until 1911, when the explorer Hiram Bingham arrived guided by local villagers. Today it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site (since 1983) and was named one of the New Seven Wonders of the World in 2007.
It sits at 2,430 m (7,972 ft) above sea level, almost 1,000 meters lower than Cusco, where the Andes begin to turn into high jungle. That drop in altitude is why there is no road to its town, Aguas Calientes — you can only get there by train or on foot.

Tu entrada a Machu Picchu
It all starts here: the circuit and the time slot you book define the rest of your itinerary, so it's the first thing we handle for you. We recommend buying with at least 3 months' notice, especially in high season (June–October), because each circuit has limited capacity per time slot. If you arrived without a ticket, Aguas Calientes releases about 1,000 same-day tickets a day — the line starts early and usually means 1 or 2 nights in the town; we can handle it for you.
Circuito 1
Upper section and agricultural terraces, with the classic view from the Guardhouse. Ideal for the postcard photo and for those climbing Machu Picchu Mountain.
Circuito 2
The most complete: combines the high-angle view with an in-depth tour of the urban sector, the Sacred Plaza and the main temples.
Circuito 3
Se enfoca en el sector bajo: templos, palacios y la zona residencial de la realeza inca. Se combina con el ascenso a Huayna Picchu o Huchuy Picchu.
Traslado a Ollantaytambo
We pick you up at your hotel in Cusco or directly at the airport and take you to the Ollantaytambo train station, with times adjusted to your train departure.

How far in advance should I buy my Machu Picchu ticket?
We recommend at least 3 months, especially in high season (June to October), because each circuit has a limited number of time slots and the most popular ones sell out first.
What if I didn’t buy my ticket in advance?
Aguas Calientes sells a limited daily quota of last-minute tickets (about 1,000 a day). Getting one means lining up early and, almost always, spending 1 or 2 nights in the town while a spot opens up.
What is the difference between circuits 1, 2 and 3?
Circuit 1 is panoramic (upper section and the classic photo), Circuit 2 is the most complete (upper and lower sections, recommended for first-timers), and Circuit 3 focuses on the lower sector and the Inca royalty area.
Which train suits me best?
If you want to save, Expedition or Voyager do the job well. If you want more views, Vistadome or The 360°. For a special occasion, the Hiram Bingham includes the full onboard gourmet experience.
Is the transfer to the station included?
We offer a private transfer from your hotel in Cusco or from the airport to the Ollantaytambo train station, coordinated with your train time, as an additional service.
Is a guide mandatory?
Yes, entry to Machu Picchu requires a guide. We include a private guide inside the sanctuary, adapted to the circuit you choose.
