The Cusco City Tour is the ideal half-day tour to understand the greatness of the Inca Empire before heading to the Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu.
History and importance of the City Tour
This tour brings together the most important sites in Cusco: the Qoricancha, the former Temple of the Sun and the most sacred site of the empire; Sacsayhuamán, one of the greatest engineering works of the pre-Hispanic world, built with stone blocks weighing up to 200 tons; and Q’enqo, Puka Pukara and Tambomachay, ceremonial centers devoted to the worship of water. Together they show how the Incas understood water, the stars and the land.
Altitude: the tour goes from 3,400 m (11,150 ft) in downtown Cusco up to about 3,700 m (12,140 ft) at Sacsayhuamán and the sites above the city. Walk slowly and drink water.
