Palccoyo Mountain is the less crowded alternative to the famous Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca): it shares the same geological phenomenon of natural mineral coloring, but on a shorter and easier route, ideal for travelers of any age or fitness level. Located at over 4,900 m / 16,075 ft in the Vilcanota Range, it offers the particularity of showing three colorful mountains from a single viewpoint, as well as the surprising “Stone Forest” and views of the sacred Ausangate peak. Since it receives far fewer visitors than Vinicunca, it lets you enjoy the Andean landscape in greater peace and in close contact with local wildlife (alpacas and vicuñas).

Places you will visit:

  • Checacupe village: a historic stop to see its three bridges: the Inca, the Colonial and the Modern.
  • Stone Forest: natural rock formations that look like they came from another planet, at the top of the range.
  • The Three Rainbow Mountains of Palccoyo
  • Ausangate viewpoint: impressive views of Cusco's most sacred snow-capped peak.
