The Cusco Walking Tour is the best way to explore the historic center of the former Inca capital on foot, with a local guide who explains every street, every wall and every story.
History and importance of the tour
Cusco was the capital of the Tahuantinsuyo, the largest empire in pre-Columbian America, and it has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1983. Its streets preserve the Inca foundations and walls on which the colonial city was later built. On this tour you will pass through the Plaza de Armas, the famous 12-Angled Stone (a showcase of Inca stonework precision), San Blas, the city's most traditional artisan neighborhood, and the Sapantiana aqueduct, plus streets with curious names such as Siete Culebras (Seven Snakes), Siete Borreguitos (Seven Little Lambs), Siete Diablitos (Seven Little Devils) and Angelitos (Little Angels).
Altitude: Cusco sits at 3,400 m (11,150 ft) above sea level. The tour is short and relaxed, ideal as your first contact with the city on the day you arrive.
